Spatial Assessment of Soil Erosion Risk Using RUSLE Embedded in GIS Environment: A Case Study of Jhelum River Watershed

چکیده
The watershed area of the Mangla Reservoir spans across Himalayan region India and Pakistan, primarily consisting Jhelum River basin. is rugged with highly elevated, hilly terrain relatively thin vegetation cover, which significantly increases river’s sediment output, especially during monsoon season, leading to a decline in reservoir’s storage capacity. This work assesses soil erosion risk (Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJ&K), Pakistan) using Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). RUSLE components, including conservation support or control practice factor (P), erodibility (K), slope length steepness (LS), rainfall erosivity (R), crop cover (C), were integrated compute erosion. intensity maps generated by computing parameters, then physical factors such as units, elevation, slope, land uses/cover examine how these affect spatial patterns loss. 2021 data utilized (K) map was created world surface prepared Food Agriculture Organization (FAO). (LS) rough Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Digital Elevation Model (SRTM DEM). analysis revealed that primary use cultivated land, accounting for 27% area, slopes 30% higher present two-thirds watershed. By multiplying five variables, study determined annual average loss 23.47 t ha−1 yr−1. In areas dense mixed forest rates ranged from 0.23 yr−1 25 findings indicated 55.18% research has low risk, 18.62% medium 13.66% high 11.6% very risk. study’s will provide guidelines policy/decision makers better management

risk assessment of soil erosion, one of the most important land degradation problems worldwide, is very essential for land and water resources management, and development of soil conservation methods. in the present study, the temporal changes of soil erosion risk were assessed from 1987 to 2010, based on the revised universal soil loss equation (rusle) using remote sensing (rs) and geographic ...
متن کاملModeling Soil Erosion Using Rusle and Gis Tools
Soil erosion involves detachment and transport of soil particles from top soil layers, degrading soil quality and reducing the productivity of affected lands. Soil eroded from the upland catchment causes depletion of fertile agricultural land and the resulting sediment deposited at the river networks creates river morphological change and reservoir sedimentation problems. However, land managers...

Introduction: Soil erosion is the most important factor in damaging and decreasing the productivity of agricultural soils. Moreover, as the transfer of sediments rich in nutrients through the soil leads to soil erosion and in turn to the decrease in the dams’ reservoirs’ storage capacity, bringing about adverse economic and eco-environmental consequences such as damage to land resources and dec...
متن کاملAssessment of Soil Erosion Susceptibility in Kothagiri Taluk Using Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) and Geo-Spatial Technology
Soil erosion is a serious environmental problem in Kothagiri Taluk. Many studies have been carried out to map shifting cultivation and areas susceptible to soil erosion. Mostly, estimated soil loss is taken as the basis to classify the level of soil loss susceptibility of area. The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) function is a commonly used erosion model for this purpose in Kothagi...
